Uvinul A Plus (UVA Filter)

INCI · Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate

Related names and forms: DHHB. This list does not indicate synonyms or exact ingredient matches.

Uvinul A Plus (INCI: Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate; DHHB) is a newer-generation organic filter with high photostability, working particularly in UVA, including UVA1. Its most prominent feature is much greater light resistance than avobenzone. Positioned as a 'stable UVA option', it generally does not need avobenzone's intensive stabilisation. Its oil-soluble, transparent nature allows lightweight formulas without white cast. Labels show 'Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate'. UVA protection is often emphasised for dark spots and visible photoageing, but UVA alone is not a broad spectrum; Uvinul A Plus is generally used with UVB filters. Klaris considers its UVA contribution, accompanying UVB filters, UVA indicators (PPD/PA and the UVA circle) and texture together.

i. Cosmetic Functions

Frequently Discussed Effects

The following headings summarise areas of effect frequently discussed in the literature; visible results in each area require regular use and a suitable formula.

  • UVA-Focused Protection

A photostable organic filter particularly effective in UVA.

  • A Stable UVA Alternative

Considered a more durable UVA option than avobenzone, which is not photostable on its own.

  • Elegant Texture Options

Its oil-soluble structure suits transparent, lightweight sunscreen formulas.

Mechanism

What Happens Within the Skin?

The following points summarise mechanisms from dermocosmetic literature in plain English. Klaris presents them as background information to help readers understand the context, not as medical claims.

  1. Step 1

    UVA-Focused Absorption, Including UVA1

An organic filter particularly effective in long UVA, positioned as a stable contributor to UVA coverage.

  2. Step 2

    High Photostability

Much more light-resistant than avobenzone, making it a choice for UVA protection throughout the day.

  3. Step 3

    Low Stabilisation Requirements

Stable on its own, so it generally does not require the intensive stabilisation needed by avobenzone.

  4. Step 4

    Oil Solubility and Elegance

Dissolves in the oil phase and gives a transparent finish, suitable for lightweight formulas without white cast.

ii. Role in the Formula

How Is It Read on a Label?

Uvinul A Plus is among the filters regulated by cosmetic legislation and generally used with UVB filters for a broad spectrum. Its high photostability makes it a choice for protection throughout the day. Conditions of use are assessed within formula and market regulations.

A Closer Look · pH, Stability, Synergy

Uvinul A Plus is a photostable UVA filter chosen to strengthen UVA coverage in modern sunscreens. Stability is its most obvious difference from avobenzone: while avobenzone degrades in light alone and needs additional stabilisers, Uvinul A Plus is largely stable on its own. This simplifies formulation and supports UVA protection throughout the day. Its oil-soluble, transparent nature enables elegant formulas without white cast. A UVA filter alone does not provide a broad spectrum. Uvinul A Plus is combined with UVB filters such as Uvinul T 150, octinoxate and octisalate, or with Tinosorb S, which offers a broad spectrum in one molecule. Label indicators of UVA protection (PPD, the PA+ system and the EU UVA circle) relate to the presence and level of a UVA filter such as Uvinul A Plus; SPF alone does not describe UVA coverage. Regional regulations may differ, so Klaris describes conditions in general terms without unsourced specific limits. Newer-generation filters are discussed in a low-irritation context for sensitive profiles; patch testing a new product is measured. Klaris assesses UVA contribution, complementary UVB coverage, the UVA indicator and texture as a whole.

iii. Sensitivity Advisory

A Note on Extra Care in Context

Newer-generation filters are generally described as low-irritation, but individual sensitivity may still be reported in sensitive profiles. Patch testing is a measured approach.

A sensitivity advisory is not an instruction for use; where individual health circumstances, pregnancy or known sensitivities are involved, discussing the decision with your doctor may be a more contextual approach.

Common Misconceptions

Frequently Confused Points

  1. Common Belief

Uvinul A Plus provides broad-spectrum protection alone.

    A More Contextual Reading

Uvinul A Plus is UVA-focused and needs complementary UVB filters for a broad spectrum. UVA protection is only one part of broad-spectrum coverage.

  2. Common Belief

Uvinul A Plus is always superior to avobenzone.

    A More Contextual Reading

It is a more stable UVA option, but superiority depends on the whole formula, filter combination and protection balance. Well-stabilised avobenzone formulas can also be powerful.

  3. Common Belief

A high SPF means a Uvinul A Plus product also gives strong UVA protection.

    A More Contextual Reading

SPF largely measures UVB; UVA level has a separate indicator (PPD/PA or the UVA circle). The presence and level of Uvinul A Plus determine the UVA side.
